New Lambs

Today we finally had new lambs. One yearling ewe had a brown ram lamb. The last of the 3 older ewes had 2 lambs; one ewe lamb with a black spot on her butt and one white ram lamb. They were on the ground when we woke up this morning so all is well. We are expecting a major storm tomorrow so glad they arrived today. Two more ewes to go and our family will be complete for another year.

Beautiful Arizona Day

Today we did some shopping in Tucson and it was really beautiful. We left early and got dog food at Costco. Our chickens are laying eggs regularly so we took some to DH's doctor's secretary. She has been really supportive of us and helpful so she deserves something she enjoys. Her kids look forward to farm fresh eggs. When we got back home there were no new lambs so we are hopeful they will come tomorrow or Friday before the storms come on the weekend.

Cold Winters Day

Today was a typical winter day in Arizona. We didn't do much with it and no lambs. Sometimes we need those quiet days to rest up for the ones we know are coming that will be quite hectic. It was nice to see the sun and breathe in the cool crisp air. It became increasingly windy as the day wore on. We managed to get the chores done and take a short ride to the back 40 and beyond.

More Rain

Today we had more rain which we really need in the desert. It is cold enough to snow tonight. We stocked up on groceries so let the weather come; we are ready. We are still on lamb watch for the remaining four ewes. These girls are sure taking their time.

Wild Wacky Saturday

Today started out nice and sunny. DH ended up tipping tractor in the dry creek. Then the wind, dust, rain and snow came. Tried to get sheep in the barn with Keesha and Misty but they gave up. We'll see if tomorrow brings us sun.

2 Ram Lambs

Finally tonight we had 2 new ram lambs. I'll post photos tomorrow. It was so fascinating watching mom and babies interacting. The other sheep looked on and welcomed the new ones. Tomorrow they will be out in the sunshine. For tonight they are safe in the barn with mom getting acquainted. Life is good!

Lamb Day?

We are still waiting for new lambs today and it is beautiful so far. It is more nerve racking on me than them. The 4 lambs we have so far are all interacting nicely and the ewes are respectful of their presence. We are expecting rain for the weekend so we hope they all come before then. At least we are ready for them and the barn is clean if we need to put them away for weather. We hope to take the ram to the butcher sometime soon as he isn't needed.

Monday

Monday: Normally a usual day to start off the week but today is a holiday. We are still on lamb watch and it is nice and sunny with no wind. DH is on his tractor again today. I want to wish our own Max's Molly Girl a Happy Birthday. She is such a good girl and does agility and herding with her owners Tom and Nancy of Phoenix. She has found such a good home with them and they love her so much. She even gets doggy birthday cake. Happy Birthday Molly!

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day. It was nice outside but I was inside most of the day on lamb watch. Hubby was on his tractor digging out the drainage area at the front of our property. We had leftovers for dinner after a very late lunch (for us). He finally wished me a happy valentines day about 7:30 p.m. I had planned on going to a ASCA trial with my puppy Chula but he said I was needed at home. Such a waste of a gorgous day. Tomorrow will be spent outside with the dogs and enjoying the sun. So much for a romantic day or what is supposed to be one. At least I called my best friend Tammy and she and her wonderful hubby are fine. Hope to see them a lot in the new year. We miss them visiting often and playing games, riding bikes or just being around to cheer up everyone's day. Tomorrow is another day after all.

Today was a absolutely beautiful day! We put the lambs out with their mom to enjoy the sunshine. They get locked up in the barn one more night so the others won't bother them. They have bonded really well with mom and wanted to follow her around. She is such a good mom too for being a first timer. I put Desi with Sam one more day and it went well. She accepted him without any protests. I did stay with them to protect him and make sure she didn't do any unwanted behavior. They were both really good dogs and we should be expecting puppies in a few months. Did I say we love spring?

Happy Birthday Misty

Today is our Rockin Red's Misty Woo Woo's birthday. She is 12 years old today. Misty is my hubby's constant companion. She loves to feed sheep with me too. She will have a fun day for sure.

Today was a most exciting day. We had two lambs born to a yearling ewe. She had one red ram lamb and soon after followed a white ewe lamb. After the initial getting acquainted she bonded with them and was mothering them very well. To make sure they would be safe we put them in the barn for the night as we are expecting snow. Tomorrow should bring new life all over again. I love spring!

We are expecting rain and snow tomorrow. The Arizona desert needs all the rain we can get so we are glad about it. Sam and Desi are expecting. They had their second tie today. Also Chula received her DNA-VP certificate today from ASCA. We look forward to new life on our farm as our ewes are due on Wednesday. I love spring!

Puppies

We are excited that Sam bred Desi today and we should have puppies in two months. We are very pleased to have Desi in our family. She is such a sweet girl and we kept a puppy from this cross last year. Her name is Chula. This is such a fun puppy and we can't imagine life without her. Our Sam is the best boy ever and we love him so much. I hope to be able to train him for stock work on my own and make him a useful member of our ranch. He is a wonderful boy and a good watch dog. He earned his CGC with a friend's trainer who he had never met before. The two of them just clicked. These puppies should work stock and also be useful members of any family.
We are getting lots of rain and we sure do need it in our part of Arizona. We hope to have lots of wildflowers in the fields. The cranes are in the process of nesting on the playa and the birders are out in force watching them. They are almost as interesting as the birds themselves. The other day we drove to town and saw two of them stopped in the road to watch them.
